by Dynablue, 7 months agoExcellent Dev Support. Love this extension! A concern- the recent update gives me a warning message about Speed Booster Update Required. When I click on Fix Issue, a new screen comes up that requires me to Grant Permissions in my browser. I want to believe it's a legit request from the Dev but it hits me in the "old school popup spam window" feels and I want to touch base and make sure that's expected behavior before I click it.

I have been using Speed Booster from pretty early on. It does exactly what I need it to do: keep long duration windows lag-free. A simple refresh of the tab and you're back to full speed. Massive improvement! Downsides: None that I've found. Browser used: Firefox.
I had to buy a new laptop and when I downloaded the extension for the new machine, I was unaware of how to extend my early-access license to the new machine, but honestly, I've used the heck out of this extension and the developer legitimately deserves the minimal fee, so I bought a license. Enjoy your new coffee (or whatever!) :D

Thanks for the kind words and for reaching out instead of just uninstalling or leaving a negative review! :) I completely understand the hesitation - security prompts can definitely feel jarring.
I can confirm this is expected behavior from the latest update. Besides bugfixes, I’ve also introduced a small "one-time licence fee" for new heavy users (who use it for more than 30 long chats per day), as I find myself spending quite a lot of time maintaining the tool and answering users questions.
As an early user though, you will automatically get an unlimited licence on all your current devices when you update, and the extension remains 100% free and unlimited for you. The fee is only for new, heavy users.
But to support this system, the browser requires permission to talk to:
gptspeedbooster.com: To verify the extension is an official version.
api.freemius.com: Secure payment provider for license and payment handling.
Crucially: All message processing still happens 100% locally on your machine. No personal data or chat content ever leaves your device. These new permissions are only to do a basic check for a licence key and a call to a payment provider, when a user wants to buy a licence.
